We arrived to Tokio on Thursday morning (24 March) at 10 am. Narita airport
was rainy and surprisingly quiet. After immigration, passport and customs
controls we went to Japan Railways (JR) office and took our JR passes for two
weeks. We took Narita Express train from the airport to Shinjuku. Train was
very comfortable and duration of our trip was one hour and 15 minutes. We were
at the hotel around 2 pm and got our room after half an hour. We were very
tired after a long journey and we took 2 hours nap before doing anything else.
In the evening we went to discover our neighborhood. Streets were full of
people running home after working day. We made some shopping and had an
excellent Japanese dinner. In the end of our first day in Tokyo we had coffee
and tea at the sky bar on the top of Hyatt Park Hotel.
The most amazing things we saw today:
- Excessive byrocracy and checking of everything
- Electronic toilets including warmed toilet seats
- Great hospitality of Japanese people
- Navigation in the a city without GPS and offline
maps is a hard task
Ensimmäisen päivän hämmästelyn kohteemme olivat:
- Käsittämätön byrokratia ja asioiden tuplavarmistelu kaikkialla
- Sähköllä toimivat WC:t, joissa on lämmitetyt istuimet
- Japanilaisten kuuluisa ystävällisyys ja avuliaisuus on täyttä totta
- Navigointi suurkaupungissa ilman puhelimen GPS ja karttatoimintoa on yllättävän vaikeaa.
